summary

I still have to complete one final piece, which I will get done in the next week and I know there is a few things I need to touch up. I know that I’ve had a few dry spells within the project and haven’t done as much work some weeks as I have others, but I put some of this down to the events that have happened over the time of the project. I personally feel that by doing the presentation document it has stopped me doing work on my final major project on occasions. This said it has been a benefit as well at times because my sketchbook isn’t the most organised and I have produced a lot of work on loose paper. It has also made a lot of my work look a lot better being on the blog because it has brightened up a lot of the pieces; it also allows you to see a selection of my work together.
I feel that the final major project has gone well and I have progressed on the skills I have acquired while being at university. I believe that by picking a topic that I am passionate about I haven’t lost interest in my project.
After university I plan on doing some freelance work to improve my portfolio and to gain some experience as an illustrator. I would also like to go into producing t-shirt designs and maybe start my own t-shirt company with a friend on my course.

poster 3

During my work in progress session with Ceri she said that I needed to do more development work on the composition like I have been doing with the font for my posters. So in this week I spent a lot of time playing with different types of font and then the composition. As I was still confused and a bit thrown off by what Ceri had said I should do I was starting to get my self into a right panic so I went to get another opinion so went and spoke to Derek again. He said I should take on board what she had said but not to think too much into it and worry my self about it.  My reasons for this was that I had a song in mind that I wanted to use in the poster but the words were sung in the same tone with the exception on the last word. The song I’m using is ‘sittin on the dock of the bay’, by Otis Redding. So I decided to approach it the same way as the last one and have different pieces of lino that make up the final image.

final poster number 2

I cut my plate into sections and changed what I thought had to be done to make it look better and to relate what I had been looking at throughout my project like I put the still in a old shop sign style shape. I decided to play around with a few colours as I’m trying to only use two colours in each poster just so they have a linking factor that makes them look like part of a series.

first attempt

I decided to try and make the poster from one plate of Lino but after having a work in progress session with Ceri this week she didn’t think it was a very good idea and recommended that I should have the pieces separate and that he poster should be read in the same way you would sing the song. So that some words should be bigger that others etc., and this has really put me in a pickle and thrown me of course. The reasons for this is that I thought I was on a roll and now I’ve got all this to think about and I’ve only got a couple of weeks left to do it. I decided to print my Lino that I have cut out anyway and see what it looks like. But I was talking to Katherine and she said that I should paint over the print I’ve just done before I cut my Lino and help me plan out how I want the plate to look when I do cut it up, so I did .

here we go again

I have just been doing what I did for my last poster and that’s making a few pages of different fonts and playing around with the composition.
